How to choose the right heat pump for your cottage?

When it comes to heating a cottage, comfort, efficiency, and sustainability are of paramount importance. That's why more and more homeowners are choosing air source heat pumps (ASHPs), especially models that use R290 refrigerant, such as our latest SIDITE R290 all-in-one heat pump.
But one key question remains:
How do I calculate the right size heat pump for your home?
Sizing a heat pump: A simple formula
In general, you need 2.5 kW of heating power per 20 square meters of living space.
That's 1 kW per 8 square meters.
The process is as follows:
160 square meter villa → 160 ÷ 8 = 20 kW heat pump
240 m2 villa → 240 ÷ 8 = 30 kW heat pump
This formula assumes moderate insulation and standard room heights. For colder climates or older buildings with poor insulation, consider increasing the capacity by 10% to 20%.
Tip: Oversizing is not better. An overpowered heat pump may short-cycle, leading to inefficiency and wear and tear.
Why R290 is so important
SIDITE R290 heat pumps use propane (R290) as the refrigerant, a natural, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly choice with the following features:
Ultra-low global warming potential (GWP = 3)
High energy efficiency
Lower operating costs
Quiet performance
This makes it ideal for homeowners who want to reduce their carbon footprint without compromising performance.
Ideal for villas and larger homes
Villas typically require heating in larger, more extensive areas and have higher comfort requirements. The SIDITE R290 Monoblock is therefore designed to meet these needs with the following features:
Silent operation
Advanced power consumption monitoring
Simple integration with underfloor heating and hot water systems
No need for indoor refrigerant piping
Quick and easy installation. Once installed, it runs quietly and efficiently, making it ideal for long-term use.
